A Monster Surprise' is a rhyming detective story, perfect for KS1. This engaging monster story provides lots of opportunities for engaging English learning.
The woodland animals each find that someone has been taking their food. At first, they accuse each other. Then, they go on a hunt to find who is taking their food... and why. They're in for a monster surprise!
Key teaching points:
- Includes rhyme and alternative spellings for graphemes.
- Follows a clear sequence of events that can be ordered by children.
- Provides opportunities for inference and discussion related to how the characters feel, how they behave and how they might have behaved differently.
- Links to great writing opportunities, such as writing chracter descriptions of the monster using adjectives and expanded noun phrases in sentences.
- Can be linked to PSED and PSHE learning around how we make friends and how we include others.
